How to Get Your CPAP Machine Covered in Ontario

Paying for a CPAP machine out of pocket can feel overwhelming. Fortunately, Ontario residents have several funding options available. Between government programs, private insurance, and direct billing, many patients end up paying far less than the full retail price. This guide walks you through every coverage option so you know exactly what to expect before your first appointment.

Does OHIP Cover CPAP Machines?

OHIP does not cover the cost of CPAP machines or supplies. However, Ontario has a separate government program specifically designed to help with assistive devices, including CPAP equipment.

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP)

The Assistive Devices Program, commonly called ADP, is administered by the Ontario Ministry of Health. It provides a one-time grant toward the purchase of a CPAP or BiPAP device for eligible Ontario residents.

To qualify, you need a confirmed diagnosis of sleep apnea and a prescription from a sleep specialist. You also need to purchase through an ADP-authorized vendor. CPAP Central is an authorized ADP vendor, so your purchase qualifies directly through any of our locations.

ADP Grant Amounts

Device Type ADP Grant Amount
CPAP Machine $415.50
BiPAP Machine $712.50

ADP regulates CPAP pricing uniformly across all models. The grant amount is fixed regardless of which device you choose. Your remaining balance after the grant is covered by private insurance or paid out of pocket.

Private Insurance Coverage

Most extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover CPAP equipment. Coverage levels vary widely by plan. Some plans cover 80% of the device cost after the ADP grant. Others cover the full remaining balance. A few plans require a waiting period before the benefit activates.

Before your appointment, contact your insurance provider and ask specifically about respiratory equipment or durable medical equipment coverage. Bring your plan details to your first visit and our funding team will handle the estimate and direct billing on your behalf. You can also start the process now using our insurance pre-approval form.

Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)

CPAP Central is also an authorized vendor under Veterans Affairs Canada. Eligible veterans can receive coverage for CPAP devices and supplies through VAC. If you are a veteran with a sleep apnea diagnosis, contact our team before your appointment so we can confirm your entitlements and prepare the appropriate paperwork.

How the Insurance Pre-Approval Process Works

Many patients are unsure where to start. The process at CPAP Central is straightforward. Here is what happens from start to finish.

  • Your sleep specialist diagnoses sleep apnea and writes a prescription.
  • You submit your prescription to CPAP Central through our insurance pre-approval form.
  • Our funding team reviews your ADP eligibility and contacts your insurance provider.
  • We prepare a cost estimate and confirm your out-of-pocket amount before your fitting appointment.
  • You come in for your mask fitting and device setup, knowing exactly what you will pay.

What If I Don’t Have Private Insurance?

Even without private insurance, the ADP grant significantly reduces your cost. Payment plans are also available at CPAP Central to help spread remaining costs over time. Our team will review all available options with you during your appointment so you can make an informed decision.

Annual Supply Costs

Beyond the initial device purchase, CPAP therapy involves ongoing supply costs. With private insurance coverage, most patients spend between $400 and $600 per year on replacement supplies such as masks, tubing, and filters. Visit our products page to browse available supplies, or ask about our RePAP program at your next appointment.
